The brake and clutch pedals (1,2) are mounted on support bracket (5), and the steering column (3) is attached to the support (4). The pedal release device includes two arms (6) each having two parts (7,8) at right angles connected by pivot shafts (9) to the bracket (5). Protrusions (10) in the arm sections (7) form an impact releasable rotational bearing in holes in the bracket (5) for brake pedal shaft (11). The other ends of arm sections (7,8) are connected by nipple (12) to column support (4). The release of the brake pedal from the pracket (5) is initiated in the event of a collision impact by the downward movement of the steering column disconnecting the arms (6).
