The connecting element for especially a harness belt consisting of two individual straps(3) has a flat retaining section(4) lying against the abdomen or chest region, and which has two sleeve-type holders for the individual straps. At least one of the holders is left open for inserting the belt strap. The two holders are formed by two flaps connected by one edge to the retaining section and by their other edge detachably fastened more or less centrally on the retaining section. In relation to their longitudinal direction the two holders are orientated in the shape of a V relative to one another.
