Method and device for determining the driving status of a vehicle in the case of failure of or signal errors from a speed sensor

The method involves continuously sensing spring movement between the chassis and axles, forming the mean of the sum of the measured values, determining the number of local extremes of the mean or sum in a certain period, determining the frequency of extremes and hence of vertical relative motion, comparing with a defined threshold defining stationary status and providing the result for intervention in control, regulation and/or monitoring devices. The method involves continuously sensing the spring movement between the vehicle chassis and axles, forming the mean of the sum of the measured values, determining the number of local extremes of the mean or the sum of measured values in a certain period, determining the frequency of local extremes and hence of vertical relative motion between the chassis and axle, comparing the frequency with a defined threshold defining stationary status and providing the result for intervention in control, regulation and/or monitoring devices.
