Intake system for an internal combustion engine and method of operation thereof

The device has a first intake channel (14) for each cylinder with first closure element (13), and an additional second intake channel (17) with a second closure element (18), esp. a solenoid valve. The second channel is longer than the first one, and the first channel has a larger cross section than the second one. The intake device is partially formed by an intake tube. This forms a modular unit combining collection chamber (12), first and second intake channels up to the connection point on a cylinder head, and the closure elements.
