Footrest for a vehicle

DRIVE August 14, 2002

The foot rest (1), fitted between a front bulkhead and the floor, esp of a motor vehicle, has a flat rigid section (10) to receive the driver's left foot, inclined forwards at a set angle. It is fitted with an upper hinge (11) and a lower skid (13) that enables it to slide backwards on the vehicle floor in the event of a front end collision, maintaining its original angle of inclination. The hinge is made from a fold in the upper part of the foot rest, which has a hole (15) for a fixing such as a rivet, while the skid is made from a shock absorbing material to damp vibrations emanating from the vehicle floor.
