The tow hook (6) for a car is mounted so that it can rotate about its inner vertical arm (8) in a bearing (11) fitted around the arm from a position where it points forward under the car to a position where it points backwards for use. The bearing itself can swivel about a shaft (13) which is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the car so that the hook rises as it is swivelled out for use. The end points of swivelling are determined by stops (26, 27) on the shaft mounting.
