Internal combustion engine, especially a gas engine, comprises a compressor (4) and a bypass (6) leading around the compressor. At least one explosion protection device (11) is arranged in the bypass. Preferred Features: The bypass has an expanded cross-section in the region of the explosion protection device. A mixture cooler (5) is connected after the compressor.
