Method of displaying conditions in a motor vehicle

The events are divided into those initiated by the driver, e.g. operation of headlights,and those initiated by an onboard computer, e.g. engine temperature. The first are allocated a first row of visible symbols and the second further rows in which the computer controlled displays are invisible. A further zone in the display is used to provide written information on any action required for a particular event, e.g. change air filter.
