The first two rows of a display panel are provided with visible event symbols which indicate events initiated directly by the driver, e.g. headlights, and some by an onboard computer. Further rows of invisible symbols are provided for computer monitored events, e.g. engine temperature. A further zone in the display is used to provide written information on any action required for a particular event, e.g. change air filter.
