The energy absorber consists of two base plates (2, 3), each having a number of truncated conical elements (12), moulded in one piece from a plastic material with or without a filler and folded over along a thin hinge so that the two plates are joined face to face. The ends (5, 6) of the conical elements are elongated, and those on one base plate are offset at an angle to those on the other.
