The drive apparatus includes an internal combustion engine (1) with a drive shaft (1.1), preferably a crankshaft. A starter-generator (2) in the form of an asynchronous machine is couplable to the drive shaft via its rotor (2.3) A drive-side automatic transmission (3;4) has a gear part (4) and a torque converter (3). The starter-generator is arranged on the side of the torque converter axially facing away from the internal combustion engine.
