In a rearview mirror, the mirror layer (16) is located on the outside (12) of the carrier part (6). The carrier part (6) thus does not serve to support and mount a separate mirror element, for example a coated glass plate or the like, and furthermore the carrier part (6) is not provided with the mirror layer (16) on its inside (14), that is, the carrier part (6) or the material of the carrier part (6) does not need to have any special optical properties. Elaborate machining steps of the carrier part (6) on its inside (14) before applying the mirror layer (16), i.e. polishing steps etc., are unnecessary since the mirror layer (16) is applied directly to the outside (12).
