The method is based on the measurement of the air mass flow in the suction pipe as a value for the combustion chamber charge. From this is calculated the quantity of fuel to be injected, ignition point and engine torque. As a further control parameter the suction pipe pressure is measured, from which a second value for the charge is determined. the difference in the values is subjected to an integrating and iterative process until the difference is zero.
