A boot lid mechanism for the lid (12) of the boot (14) of a convertible motor car which includes means enabling the lid (12) to pivot about an axis (22) situated near the forward portion of the lid (12) and substantially orthogonal of the longitudinal centre line of the car, this pivoting movement being accompanied by a movement towards and away from the axis (22).
