A method for selecting a location designation in a motor vehicle navigation system by voice input using a speaker-independent voice input system is proposed. A first list contains all location designations. A second list contains the location designations that have already been entered into the system once, with the phonemes additionally being recorded. Upon renewed voice input of a location designation, the search is first performed in the second list.
