Twist beam axle
DRIVE
December 5, 2001
The vehicle rear axle (1) has two levers (2,3) with a pivot (5) at one end and a stub axle mounting (8) at the other end. Springs (7) and dampers (6) are arranged near the stub axle mountings. The levers have connections, near the pivots, to the ends (11,12) of a transverse beam (4). The beam has a central portion (10) consisting of a constant section hollow profile (9) with tapered enlarged sections (13,14) at the ends. The profile may be partially hardened in a protective inert gas atmosphere.
