The invention relates to a multicell accumulator with a housing and a housing cover that seals the housing in a gas-tight manner, consisting of an upper and lower cover (1, 2), wherein between the upper and lower cover (1, 2) with the formation of a plurality of mutually corresponding labyrinth chambers (5) a degassing line is provided that connects all cells in terms of flow and opens at the end face into at least one degassing opening (6) and is closed with an ignition protection device (8). In order to create an accumulator in which adequate degassing is ensured under all operating conditions and at the same time the leakage of acid present in the degassing line is largely prevented even at high internal pressure, the invention proposes that the degassing opening (6) and the ignition protection device (8) are arranged essentially perpendicular to one another in the degassing direction and that the degassing line in the area between the ignition protection device (8) and the degassing opening (6) has an expansion forming a collection chamber (7) which in the normal position of the accumulator is arranged below the degassing opening (6).
