A method for manufacturing a cylinder liner for internal combustion engines and a cylinder liner that can be produced according to the method of the invention is disclosed. The method comprises thermally spraying, for example using an arc spraying process, a wear layer on a support body and spraying a cover or bonding layer onto the wear layer. The wear layer comprises a hypereutectic aluminum/silicon alloy and the cover or bonding layer comprises a hypoeutectic aluminum/silicon alloy. Between these two layers, a melt brake, for example made of iron, can be applied. The melt brake has a higher melting temperature than the two aluminum/silicon alloys and thereby prevents melting of the wear layer when pouring the cylinder liner into a cylinder bore.
