Heat exchanger in an EGR arrangement

The exhaust gas heat exchanger(1) is connected to two ports located in the exhaust manifold and having two connections(15,17). The exhaust valve is located between one port and one side of the exhaust gas heat exchanger, with the other side of the heat exchanger in communication with the other port. At least one of the ports is located in the back pressure area of the exhaust gases in front of their outlet when viewed in the direction of exhaust gas flow. Exhaust gas flows through the heat exchanger in the direction of the exhaust valve.
