Device for monitoring a battery lead

The device has an electrically conductive screen (16) enclosing the battery lead that is fully externally insulated and connected to a defined potential and evaluation electronics (18,20) coupled to the screen, whereby the evaluation electronics are designed so that potential differences or leakage currents caused by damage can be detected. Two evaluation electronics arrangements are provided that are arranged at either end of the screen.
