Use of a floor covering from an elastically deformable material

The floor covering is made from synthetic rubber and has a pattern of projections (3) on its upper side. A second set of projections (5) on the underside, which does not overlap with the first set, supports the covering when there is no load on it. A third set of projections (7) on the underside corresponds in position with the first set and contacts the floor to give additional support when the covering is compressed.
