Apparatus and method for signalling the engagement state of a clutch in a motor vehicle

The method involves detecting the presence or absence of a force flow in the drive train based on engine and road speeds and controlling the drive unit depending on these speeds. The clutch state is detected, the presence of a force flow is detected in a first phase after engaging the clutch based on engine and road speeds and a continuous check is made in a second phase after detecting a force flow to determine if the force flow is maintained.
