Procedure for preventing a vehicle overturning
DRIVE
June 6, 2001
The method involves using sensors (1,2) to measure the pressure in pneumatic spring bellows (4,5), the spring deflection or the wheel loads on both sides of at least one axle. A transverse acceleration sensor (3) or wheel rpm sensors (10,11) measure the transverse acceleration of the vehicle. The sensor data for each curve direction and a threshold acceleration are determined and stored, as an indicator for the risk of tipping. If the threshold acceleration is reached, then the speed is reduced by a driver warning, an automatic engine throttling or an automatic braking.
