Side impact beam
DRIVE
May 16, 2001
The side collision support for a road vehicle, particularly for a vehicle door, has a hat-shaped profile (3,4) of metal plate over the major part of its length, with a rib (5,6), two legs (7,8) and two flanges (9,10). The profile is reinforced by at least one tractive component (12) connecting the legs. The tractive component is arranged in the central longitudinal area of the profile. It can be a bar or a cable with S-shaped configuration. At least two profiles are connected in one piece by their facing flanges and the tractive component penetrates both of them.
