The initiator consists of a fragmenting container with two electrode pins for connecting to an electrical circuit (18) made from metal layers on an insulating support (16). The circuit incorporates a flat heating resistance (17) connected to the electrodes by metal layer conductors (28, 29), with both conductors and the resistance covered by a pyrotechnic initiation compound. The first metal layer is of a nickel/chrome alloy and apart from heating resistance has curved edges, while the second layer is of copper and covers the first layer except for the resistance.
