Child killed as under-construction building collapses in Lahore
A child was killed and four other people were injured after part of an under-construction building collapsed in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore on Thursday, Rescue 1122 said.
Emergency officials said they received a call reporting that a wall of a building under construction had collapsed near Women's College Road in Lahore's Baghbanpura area. Rescue teams reached the site shortly after the alert.
What caused the building collapse in Lahore?
The structure was a three-story house where construction work was underway on the third floor. The floor suddenly gave way, sending debris crashing onto the ground floor and into the adjoining street. The collapse happened as heavy rain and windstorms swept Punjab province.
How many people were injured in the collapse?
Rescue workers pulled four injured people from the rubble and took them to Services Hospital in Lahore for treatment. An eight-year-old boy trapped in the debris died from his injuries, officials said.
The injured were identified as Nadeem, 35; Shakeel, 38; Faiz Ahmad, 32; and Wasim, 42.

Rescue Punjab spokesperson Farooq Ahmed said two people were killed and nine others were injured across the province in separate incidents involving collapsed walls, roofs and billboards. In Attock, two people died and three were injured when a wall collapsed near a fuel pump during strong winds and rain. A separate roof collapse in the city's Para Shaheen Bagh area injured three people.
In Qaidabad, in Khushab district, one person was injured after being struck by lightning. In Sargodha, a signboard collapsed during strong winds, injuring one person. In Sheikhupura, one person was injured when a wooden roof collapsed on Chak Rasala Road.
Ahmed said seriously injured victims received first aid before being transferred to nearby hospitals. Rescue Punjab urged residents to call the emergency helpline 1122 in case of emergency.
