Accessibility and Version 3.0 updates for my idle RPG Couch x Crawler
AppleVis [Unofficial]
June 11, 2026
Hi everyone,
A little while back I posted about my indie idle RPG, Couch x Crawler, and asked for feedback from disabled gamers, especially blind and low vision players.
First, thank you. The feedback I got from this community and from other accessibility-focused spaces has been genuinely helpful. I realized pretty quickly that “technically labeled” is not the same thing as actually playable, understandable, or comfortable to use.
I’ve been working through that feedback and just released a much larger update.
What changed:
Improved VoiceOver and TalkBack labels across the game
Better hints and button roles for interactive elements
Clearer screen reader support for character selection, care actions, inventory, store, rewards, and results
More accessible mini games, including slower pacing options
Better reward collection buttons so players know when and how to claim rewards
Improved expedition result summaries and failure explanations
New audio and music support with separate controls for music and sound effects
Added a new Tic Tac Toe mini game
Added New Game+ for level 100 players
Added egg hatching, Crawl Coins, store purchases, weapon repairs, and upgrades
Cleaned up settings, inventory, and store navigation
Added confirmation screens before spending in-game currency
The game still uses the built-in iOS and Android accessibility systems rather than a custom screen reader layer, but I’m trying to be much more intentional about how every screen reads, how focus moves, and whether the game makes sense without relying on visuals.
I’m still learning, so feedback is very welcome. I’m especially interested in:
Anything that is still unlabeled or mislabeled
Places where VoiceOver or TalkBack repeats too much information
Mini games that still feel too fast or confusing
Any buttons or controls that do not clearly announce what they do
Places where audio cues would help
Anything that works visually but does not make sense non-visually
The game is on iOS and Android:
iOS:

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tristannohrer.couchxcrawler
It is a paid game, but if the price is a barrier and you want to test accessibility, feel free to message me and I can provide a code when I have some available.
Thanks again to everyone who pushed me to take this more seriously. I’m a solo dev, so I’m not going to get everything right immediately, but I really do want Couch x Crawler to be playable by more people.
