Our take

This was one of the few sites on our trip that didn’t quite live up to our expectations.

Check-in felt more complicated than it needed to, with online registration required and the website only available in German.

The motorhomes were parked in long rows, nose-to-tail, which gave the site a more regimented feel than many of the campsites we stayed on. There was plenty of room, but it lacked the more spacious, relaxed atmosphere we generally prefer.

Although there were lovely views across the Moselle, the busy road and railway line on the opposite bank meant it never felt quite as peaceful as some of the other riverside campsites we visited.

One of the reasons we'd chosen Cochem was for the cycling, but we found much of our route followed the main road. After the dedicated cycle paths we'd enjoyed elsewhere, it wasn't quite what we'd hoped for.

Cochem itself is an attractive town and many visitors clearly love the area. We simply found that, after so many memorable stops throughout our 89-day journey, this one didn’t stand out in the same way.

There was nothing particularly wrong with the site, but it lacked the atmosphere and setting of many of the places we stayed elsewhere on the trip. It wasn’t a bad stop, just not one we’d be rushing back to.
