Codex desktop app: microphone dictation does not activate reliably

Source
  • I’m reporting a UI/interaction bug in the Codex desktop app.

Environment

* Platform: Windows desktop app
* Product: Codex / ChatGPT Codex experience
* UI language: Romanian
* Model selected: GPT-5.5
* Intelligence levels shown in the UI:
  * Nivel scăzut
  * Nivel mediu
  * Nivel ridicat
  * Foarte ridicat
* My weekly GPT-5.5 / Thinking usage is currently low, around 10% remaining.

Issue

After selecting or changing the GPT-5.5 intelligence level, the microphone/dictation button in the message box does not activate reliably.

At first, the issue seemed to happen mostly with the intermediate intelligence levels:

Medium level

  • High level

Now it appears to happen across all intelligence levels, including:

Low level

  • Medium level

  • High level

  • Very high level

In some cases, dictation only starts after clicking twice. There is no clear “usage limit reached” message, warning, or banner.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open the Codex desktop app on Windows.
2. Open the model/intelligence selector.
3. Select GPT-5.5.
4. Change the intelligence level to any available option.
5. Try to use the microphone/dictation button in the message box.

Actual result

The microphone/dictation button does not reliably activate after the first click. Sometimes dictation starts only after a second click.

Expected result

Changing the intelligence level should apply normally after one click, and the microphone/dictation button should remain available and activate normally after one click.

If this behavior is caused by weekly GPT-5.5 / Thinking usage limits, ChatGPT voice limits, or Codex-specific dictation limits, the UI should show a clear message explaining that.

Question

Could this be related to usage-limit state handling in the Codex desktop app, or is microphone dictation/transcription supposed to be independent from GPT-5.5 / Thinking usage limits?
