PM Shehbaz Sharif to undertake four-day official visit to China

WEB DESK: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to embark on a four-day official visit to China from 23 to 26 May, the Foreign Office (FO) announced on Friday.

The high-profile trip comes at the formal invitation of the Chinese leadership and is expected to further cement the strategic ties between the two neighbouring nations, according to Dawn News.

During his weekly press briefing in the capital, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi officially confirmed the schedule of the premier's upcoming visit.

"At the invitation of the People’s Republic of China, PM Shehbaz Sharif will undertake an official visit to China from May 23 to 26," Andrabi told journalists, adding that the tour holds immense significance for the bilateral landscape.

Strengthening the all-weather partnership

The visit is uniquely timed as both countries commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

According to the Foreign Office, the trip will provide a crucial opportunity to reaffirm the abiding strength of the Pakistan-China all-weather strategic partnership and advance a shared vision for a closer community with a shared future.

During his stay, Prime Minister Sharif is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with top Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.

The two sides are expected to comprehensively review bilateral relations and enhance cooperation across political, economic, trade, and strategic domains.

The premier will commence his trip from the industrial hub of Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, where he will chair the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business (B2B) Investment Conference, focusing on information technology, telecommunications, energy storage, and agriculture.

He will subsequently travel to Beijing to attend an official reception marking the historic 75-year diplomatic milestone.
