Who Do You Write Like? Let’s Find Out!

Today I discovered I Write Like, a browser-based Markdown text editor from Koding Robots doo.

Apparently, I write like …Corey Doctorow. This is obviously not a comment on my use of expletives!

I Write Like is free to use in your browser, with a one-time payment for premium features. Thank you, Koding Robots, for not using the subscription model.

Here is a bit about the I Write Like app, in the words of one of the developers who was kind enough to answer my questions.

Initially, in 2010, [IWL] was just a writing analyzer. 14 years later, we decided to make it into a full-featured Markdown editor to free writers from Word domination :)

How is it different from others:

  • Opens in the browser and doesn’t need signing in: just navigate and type (no accounts at all).

  • Lots of tools for text analysis and transforms.

  • Better typewriter mode than the rest.

  • You can import and export Word documents.

It’s a web app that works completely client-side in the browser and doesn’t send anything to the server: your texts are stored in your browser, not on our servers.

  • Can it edit locally stored files? Yes: directly in desktop Chrome or with our Mac app. In other browsers, you can open and then “download” files to save.

  • Can it save .md as well as .txt? By default, IWL uses the .txt extension, but you can change it to .md or .markdown in settings.

So, who do you write like? Find out here.
