About that: you don't need to have visuals to have badges! There's a default badge set that provides badge visuals for flags and power types, and I also made a 8-bit one with the flags (and later power types) of the 2ccNML set. But even badges without visuals can be useful in the purchase menu!
I'm admittedly one of those weirdos that don't like relying on 3rd party things if I don't have to. One thing is that because I build the nml it expects files to be locally available at build-time so having an external grf doesn't really work for this and the other is that if not necessary I'd prefer users not having to rely on 3rd party stuff either. I obviously won't code a whole new track-set for my grf because I dont want to reinvent the wheel and I can't draw but things like badges are comparatively simple.
CAF metro
Gosh it's been forever since I used phpbb, it's so ancient. Anyway, I think the issue is that 1) badges are single-use, ie they don't really account for things like multi-pickup and so I think if the filters are badge-based then items like the CAF might appear in the wrong place.
FRAX
Yes I understand that part - what I meant was that we have idk 20-25 different wagons across generations and if someone can advise as to what particular wagon should be what particular class, that would be helpful bcs otherwise I'll make changes, which will most likely be quite imperfect and then we pingpong extensively
