This could be viable in multi-player games with a modified server.

When the player decides to sell his company, the server would wipe the company after storing its value in a database, and issue a one-time redeemable code. A player in another company (perhaps even in a different game) would then enter that code to receive the old company's value as a donation.

How this would affect the game balance, is a different question. I can imagine a malicious player accumulating billions over multiple games, then spending them all at once to destroy the whole map.
