Might not be the intention, but from what @athenian200 is saying, it sounds like there may not be much choice. The GNU/Linux distros are already rapidly dropping (or planning to drop) their GTK2 libraries.

I'm really not interested in maintaining yet another one of the million forks of UXP, which is what I would do if UXP dropped GTK2 support. If the code still works we should keep it regardless and allow the community to support it on a best effort basis. Advanced users can compile their own copy of GTK2 as I stated earlier if they truly need GTK2 support and their distro doesn't provide it.
