They only use a fraction of them that they lease/rent.

I am not an MVNO expert. I have heard this recently, but I have not yet seen actual evidence showing this is the case. Again I could just not be aware though.

They do almost always have deprioritized service. Usually data is prioritized like,

  1. First responders [they all have special plans for these people but that is irrelevant to most of us]
  2. Business
  3. Postpaid users
  4. The carrier’s own prepaid plans
  5. MVNOs
  6. Home internet plans

On some carriers some of these might be on the same tiers or there are sub-tiers, so it’s just as a general rule. Some MVNOs can also negotiate better deals. I know US Mobile has higher priority as an add-on on AT&T.

This is something I’m gonna ask them about if I get a chance though.
