I'm Sisyphus and my website is my (worry)stone

jesus, get behind me! June 4, 2026

I've had this version of my static site using Eleventy for some time. It really does the job and I've enjoyed my use of it. However, I'm slightly slamming against limits that I don't want to deal with it. I've begun working on yet another CMS attempt, codenamed "ticaye" (little house in Haitian Kreyol), but I had to put that off to the side because of my need to work on more immediate projects - livtet and divine being the most recent. I'm figuring that also by blogging, I'll get a bit of focus on what it is I want and how I can shape my experience towards that. There's quite a bit I want my site to do and it all floats around "sovereignty":

  • writing my blog posts as normal
  • making my weeknotes, linklog and other short(er) form posts
  • use my site as my canonical place to post into the open social Web
  • allow for deep, Wordpress-level theming and content editing
  • keep stats on the things I use for easier reference in conversation and research

Some of this is easy to do. I made a page to track the tech and services I have and use at /uses — open to feedback. I was debating adding images but didn't think it was that useful. This link does help me glance over stats as I'm actively looking to upgrade my home PC and going to my website is a bit easier than SSH'ing into my home computing setup to figure this out. It also helps me talk about my setup in general — I like talking about my stuff!

But I think I'm just going to do something with this site until I get the new one going. In a way, I'm trying to prevent this site from being too quiet. This includes looking at my literal home lab seriously and writing more about it — like Andrew did. It's kind of silly that I've had this hodgepodge setup of a system for the last 6 years — might as well make it more useful.

Operation ticaye

If you're someone who's on https://lobste.rs or https://news.ycombinator.com, you'll see (although less nowadays) about the perpetual site rewrite. The idea/hope is that I'll be concretely doing the following:

This will be the side-project that I'll churn on over the next year on weekends when time permits. I want this because I like it. I'm in the same thinking that Andre has in this post about some folks wanting to run some things at home — some folks want to do their own gel nails, touch up their cars, cook their own meals - and others don't mind making things that they use that other people engage with (or at least perceive). If all else fails, I'll just come back to https://www.11ty.dev and call it defeat.
