I was thinking of making the locked items a little less saturated so that one can easily see if they are locked. Also, I see a lot of people give feedback about the game loop and timer and short battles. So just to clear up something, this is an incremental game and does not have a lose state. It is all about upgrading your ship to feel more powerful in a battle run.
