Add a subrule to “Systems and Directors” called “Hostile Takeovers” with the following text
If an Associate appears on the Influence list at least two more times than the Director of that system appears of the same list, they may initiate a Hostile Takeover
To do so, they create a story post to the blog titled “Hostile Takeover:” where “” is the name of the system they are attempting to takeover. A takeover attempt for that system immediately becomes Pending, and while it is pending no one else may initiate a Hostile Takeover in that system nor can anyone Influence that system.
The Takeover attempt remains pending for at least 48 hours. During that time, Associates may as a virtual action indicate which side of the Takeover attempt they prefer (either the current Director (The Target), or the associate making the takeover attempt (The Attacker)) and indicate how many credits they wish to contribute on behalf of their selection (this must be a non negative integer and if no selection is made here, the value is assumed to be 0). Associates may change their selections here at any time while it remains pending.
After a takeover attempt has been pending for at least 48 hours, the Guild may resolve the takeover attempt by doing the following:
- Assign the Target and the attacker both a Takeover Score of 0
- If the Target did not indicate which side of the Takeover attempt they prefer, increase their Takeover Score by the number of times they appear in the system’s Influence list
- If the Attacker did not indicate which side of the Takeover attempt they prefer, increase their Takeover Score by the number of times they appear in the system’s Influence list
- For each Associate (the decider) that did indicate which side of the Takeover attempt they prefer, increase the Takeover Score of the side they selected by the number of times the decider appear in the system’s Influence list. Then take the minimum of the number of credits the decider chose to contribute and the number of credits the decider has. Add that value to the Takeover Score of the side the decider selected and transfer that value from the decider’s credits to the system’s credits.
- Compare the Takeover Score of the Attacker and the Target:
- If the Attacker’s score is higher, make them the director of the system. Otherwise the director of the system remains unchanged.
- in either case, remove the last two times the Attacker appears in the influence list for that system.
- Make a comment on the takeover attempt post declaring what each Takeover score was. The takeover attempt is now no longer pending.
