Remember Morgan Farm, the 218-acre proposed development project that would add more traffic to the already overwhelmed Farrington Mill Road area? The project that was a scaled-down evolution of previously rejected Sheffield Farms?

Well, the Durham Planning Commission on Feb. 10 voted 9-0 against approval after hearing neighbors warn against the traffic and environmental threats posed by the project.

Does that mean this development is dead and gone, no more "lipstick on a pig" as one opponent called it?

It does not.

The Durham City Council isn't bound by recommendations of the Planning Commission. According to the Durham Rezoning Explorer, no date has been set yet for a City Council meeting about Morgan Farm. Stay tuned.
