I saw an article in the Atlantic that got me wondering about the meaning of reality if, as the article suggested peopl perceive the world differently

now than they did in the past. I am talking about different characteristics of people who had only oral transmission vs the changes produced by the written word and now the changes via exposure to things like TikTok on the internet. The article suggests that people living in these differing environments perceive reality differently. How many of us labor under the assumption that everybody perceives reality the same way we do, that our personal mode of consciousness is standard and universal through time. The article argues that is not true. And if not, do we ever wonder, if we could switch to perceiving in various other states that were typical and normal in their day, might we not prefer some other of those ways of seeing. And in a thousand years or less perhaps people will wonder how we could have been so limited in how we see things. The artical suggests profound political relevance.
