UFC 6 Is Changing Fighter Ratings to Make More Styles Viable

EA Sports shared details on the fighter ratings changes coming to UFC 6 and it sounds like they’re trying to move away from the old “pick the highest-rated fighter and go” approach.
Ratings still matter, but they’re not supposed to carry everything anymore. UFC 6 is putting a lot more weight on fighting styles, movement, perks, animations and player skill. The idea is to make more fighters feel usable online instead of everyone gravitating toward the same few names.
EA says different styles should actually feel different now. Not just on paper either, but in the way fighters move and react during a fight. The goal seems to be making players lean into what a fighter does well instead of just relying on overall ratings.
The new Flow State system is a big part of that. Fighters are supposed to build momentum differently depending on their style. EA pointed to Alex Pereira and Max Holloway as examples. Pereira still brings the power, while Holloway is more about speed, volume and pressure. But players will need to actually fight like them to really get the most out of each fighter.
Another notable change is how the roster is being balanced. Instead of focusing only on current versions of fighters, UFC 6 is leaning more toward prime versions. EA specifically mentioned Tony Ferguson during his long lightweight run when he looked nearly impossible to beat.
Overall, it sounds like UFC 6 is trying to make the roster feel deeper and less dependent on ratings alone. Some fighters will still have obvious advantages, but EA seems more focused on style matchups and player decision-making this time around instead of turning every online fight into the same tier-list battle.
