Captured Light & Cast Shadows

One of my personal favorite things to paint is the little liminal moments that are so difficult to notice in the normal every-day stream of life. In fact, it's possibly one of my favorite things about painting that it allows you to see things in your life differently. I love the fact that this is a painting of dead dandelions - a flower so common it's almost exclusively considered a weed. I got to see them with more time and detail than I would ever have without the paint. I got to see the way the dappled light cast the shadows of the dandelions on the pavement. I got to set one of the dandelion poofs off agains the shadow, and the other on the sunlight grasses. I got to see the little purple flowers interspersed among the grasses, and how they play off the yellow dandelions. How lucky am I to have gotten to see all this in a small patch of weeds? -ZR
