Wed, 7:30pm: Huayi Dialogues with King Shih-Chieh: Time, Slowed Down. A pioneer of Taiwan’s modern theatre scene and fondly remembered for his role as Jiang Binliu from Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land, King Shih-chieh represents a significant chapter in the history of Chinese-language theatre. In a rare dialogue session, King Shih-chieh generously shares the wisdom he has gained starting from his early days when he had nothing to do till his current world of washed-away glitz and glamour. Commiserate and find connection with homegrown Mando pop-rock band Quis in this musical showcase of their latest album, We Are All Aliens《我们都是外星人》, alongside other songs. Sun, 3pm: Reimagining Butoh Resident Workshop: Embracing 妖 by Sonia Kwek. Butoh was originally coined Ankoku Butoh, or the dance of darkness. How do we express the dark and feral within, yet not be engulfed by it? How do we allow our desires to reveal, not inebriate? This Butoh workshop specifically looks at 妖 figures in folklore, exploring their ways of moving through the world, and how we may tap into these hidden embodied wisdoms. 136 Goethe Lab.
