We’ve got 2 sets of movies by 2 directors, but since their films aren’t meant to go together, we’ll watch one from each for the next two Tuesdays. First is Lewis Seiler who (including shorts) made at least 90 films. While he probably did his best work before sound with films such as the lost Girls Gone Wild, we’ll instead be looking at what he churned out to satisfy the studios with Carmen Miranda musicals.

After that we’ll get Byambasuren Davaa’s masterpiece, The Story of the Weeping Camel today, with The Cave of the Yellow Dog next week. She’s only made four films so far, so who knows whether she’s warming up or washed up. Let’s hope for the former.

If I’m Lucky (1946)

This is kitsch with a knockout cast. Phil Silvers is the overactive band leader for the film, but the real-life leader Harry James and His Orchestra do the actual work along with singing by Carmen Miranda and a ridiculously young Perry Como (ask your grandparents who he was). Oddly (for this sort of musical) the plot involves dirty politics.
