Protect your privacy.\n\nFor this Special Thursday Cinema Night, first up is Paranoia Agent (2004), the highly-acclaimed short psychological-thriller anime series from renowned auteur Satoshi Kon, the guy behind Perfect Blue (1997), Millennium Actress (2001), Tokyo Godfathers (2003), and Paprika (2006), all of which we previously watched. It follows a series of attacks in Tokyo from a mysterious boy wielding a golden baseball bat. Detectives investigate, only to find that the boys’ victims seek out their assaults at his hands as a form of salvation from their miserable, desperate lives. Is the show trying to say something? This is considered to be on par with Kon’s other work, and it is only 13 episodes long, so we should watch it. Episodes 7 through 13 tonight, finishing off the series.\n\nAfter that is The Young and the Damned (1950), a Mexican drama from renowned auteur Luis Bunuel, whose films The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972), The Exterminating Angel (1962), Viridiana (1961), and Simon of the Desert (1965) we previously watched. It centers on the struggles of delinquent youth gangs in the slums of Mexico City. A nice, innocent boy finds himself drawn into the gang culture by a hoodlum boy he befriends, and events escalate into violence and cruelty from there. Will the protagonist be able to escape? I guess we’ll see. This is generally considered to be one of Bunuel’s best works, and one of the best films of the 1950s in general; it is currently ranked #288 on the Letterboxd Top 500.\n\nWe’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:\n\nblorp.bot.nu/o/visual_cuisine\n\nBe there, comrades!\n\n# Letterboxd:\n\n * Paranoia Agent: letterboxd.com/film/paranoia-agent/\n * The Young and the Damned: letterboxd.com/film/the-young-and-the-damned/\n\n\n\n# Doesthedogdie.com links:\n\n * Paranoia Agent: www.doesthedogdie.com/media/99764?index1=-1&index…\n * The Young and the Damned: www.doesthedogdie.com/media/17711\n\n\n\n# CWs for Paranoia Agent:\n\n * Death of dog.\n * Child abuse.\n * Gaslighting.\n * Stalking.\n * Alcohol abuse.\n * Drug use.\n * Deaths of animals.\n * Death of pet.\n * Animal corpses.\n * Someone is physically restrained.\n * Bullying.\n * Death of child.\n * Cheating.\n * Bath scene.\n * Natural bodies of water.\n * Vomiting.\n * Needles.\n * Hospital scene.\n * Misophonia.\n * PTSD.\n * Unstable reality.\n * Dissociation.\n * Mental illness.\n * Meltdown.\n * Hanging.\n * Someone struggles to breathe.\n * Flashing lights.\n * Screaming.\n * Someone is watched without their knowledge.\n * Babies.\n * Death of LGBT person.\n * Suicide.\n * Suicide attempt.\n * Self-harm.\n * Suicidal ideation.\n * Sexualization of minor.\n * Incest.\n * Sex.\n * Prostitution.\n * Nudity.\n * Objectification of female characters.\n * Implied sexual assault, but not directly depicted.\n * Implied pedophilia.\n * Chronic illness.\n * Homelessness.\n * Car crash.\n * Honking horns.\n * Screeching tires.\n * Blood and gore.\n * Someone falls down stairs.\n * Unconsciousness.\n\n\n\n# CWs for The Young and the Damned:\n\n * Cruelty to animals.\n * Deaths of animals.\n * Animal corpses.\n * Child abuse.\n * Death of child.\n * Ableism.\n * Implied sex.\n * Sexual assault: a boy gropes a girl without her consent.\n * Blood and gore.\n * Sad ending.\n\n\n\n# Links to movies:\n\n * Paranoia Agent ep. 7: tankie.tube/w/outZsCp8H3QJ2EuV8KADVS\n * Paranoia Agent ep. 8: tankie.tube/w/2cYGJoqmVuFf6d98Yd7tKS\n * Paranoia Agent ep. 9: tankie.tube/w/41Ne7SvyCgDXaZTeKqRKnB\n * Paranoia Agent ep. 10: tankie.tube/w/mRRWv8UazwEXvGuPXGyhNd\n * Paranoia Agent ep. 11: tankie.tube/w/hAtBTdodi5cj111wQ5W3to\n * Paranoia Agent ep. 12: tankie.tube/w/pLSsaZBx6oCe791MfAgSjT\n * Paranoia Agent ep. 13: tankie.tube/w/qLqFPDy6WghWJfupMhTm3J\n * The Young and the Damned: tankie.tube/w/4KY8CGhbaLG2LzLtDDLnJs\n\n",
