For this Friday Movie Night, we’re breaking the anime containment zone with a complete Project A-ko marathon. Yes, that’s right, we’re playing all six films in the series consecutively. Join superpowered schoolgirl A-ko as she battles her wealthy-genius rival B-ko for the affections of their classmate C-ko. Widely considered a classic of old-school anime fandom for its outstanding hand-drawn, hand-colored animation, and a ripping soundtrack on top of that. The first four films have all been remastered in HD quality now, though the fifth and sixth are still relegated to VHS rips, for now. This is the magnum opus of director Katsuhiko Nishijima, who has spent his subsequent career making lesser-regarded A-ko-esque stuff.
