A village in Hungary descends into hell after the fall of communism, with its economy in ruins and the inhabitants abruptly impoverished. One local farmer persuades some of the villagers to form a commune with him to bring some of the good old times back, and they all live happily ever after. Not! This is Bela Tarr we’re talking about/ It will be bleak, but it will also be meditative. We previously watched Tarr’s Werckmeister Harmonies (2000), but this is widely considered his magnum opus, and one of the greatest fims of all time; it is currently ranked #71 on the Letterboxd Top 500. If you can endure a film this long, just about anything else will be a breeze.\n\nWe’ll start at 5PM EST on Blorptube, right here:\n\nblorp.bot.nu/o/visual_cuisine\n\nBe there, comrades!\n\n# Letterboxd:\n\n * Satantango: letterboxd.com/film/satantango/\n\n\n\n# Doesthedogdie.com links:\n\n * Satantango: www.doesthedogdie.com/media/11131\n\n\n\n# CWs for Satantango:\n\n * Vomiting.\n * Child abuse.\n * Gaslighting.\n * Drug addiction.\n * Alcohol abuse.\n * Death of cat.\n * Deaths of animals.\n * Animal corpses.\n * Cruelty to animals.\n * Death of child.\n * Violent mentally-ill person.\n * Suicide.\n * Sexual assault: a man grabs a woman’s breast without her consent.\n * Torture.\n * Sad ending.\n\n\n\n# Links to movies:\n\n * Satantango: tankie.tube/w/anCbATL6aseth1o9WjJdAi\n\n",
