It is a remake of the 1932 film of the same name. It stars Al Pacino as Cuban refugee Tony Montana, who arrives in Miami during the Mariel boatlift and becomes a powerful drug lord.\n\n> Pacino worked with producer Martin Bregman to develop the project. Bregman and Sidney Lumet both conceived the idea of setting the story during the boatlift. Lumet was initially hired to direct the film but left, feeling that it was too violent and wanted it to be more of a political film. De Palma replaced Lumet as director and Bregman hired Stone to write the script. Stone, who had been struggling with his own cocaine addiction at the time, wrote the script in Paris. The film was initially going to be entirely shot in Miami, but the Cuban community denied requests to film there, feeling that the script portrayed them in a bad light. Filming took place from November 1982 to May 1983 in Los Angeles and two weeks in Miami. The film’s soundtrack and score was composed by Giorgio Moroder.\n\nThis movie is pretty unhinged. I love it. It shows anticommunist gusanos as scum but probably not in the way that it should show anticommunist gusanos as scum. The soundtrack is great. We will have a mandatory showing of my favorite Dark Souls video afterwards, which uses the theme song. The film also stars Steven Bauer (Don Eladio in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) and Mark Magolis (Hector Salamanca in BB & BCS). Wow! Typecasting them for drug dealing films! Wow!\n\nA special shoutout to the Mexican kid in my school who first told me about this movie. He loved this film and would quote it a bunch. Poor kid was struggling with his mom (white) divorcing his father (Mexican) and then making him feel bad about being latino, and in response he latched on to any latino representation he could get, no matter how bad that representation was. I hope he’s doing ok.\n\n**Content Warnings for _Scarface (1983)_**\n\nViolence and gore: Severe\n\n- Lots of shootings - Some stabbing - A man is hanged - A lot of blood - Killings by explosions - choking\n\nSexual violence: Moderate\n\n- Sexual harassment - Groping - Controlling relationships - Incestuous overtures - women brutalized for spectacle\n\nOther:\n\n- A ton of drug use (cocaine primarily, tobacco and alcohol as well) - Drug addiction and dealing - Lurid depictions of Cubans - Sad ending\n\nDoesthedogdie: www.doesthedogdie.com/media/11146\n\nUnconsentingMedia: www.unconsentingmedia.org/items/5016\n\nIMDB Parental Guide: www.imdb.com/title/tt0086250/parentalguide/\n\nTankieTube link to movie: tankie.tube/w/pRK372rsDFdoQboWBbJwjD",
