Two movies tonight! People really enjoyed Big Trouble in Little China so we’re going to follow up with two more John Carpenter classics: The Thing (1982), followed by Escape from New York (1981). We will will start P R O M P T L Y at 4:30PM Eastern US time and have only a 5 minute intermission, which will get us done barely over the time limit.

Based on the 1938 John W. Campbell Jr. novella Who Goes There? , this is Among Us the Movie. A bunch of researchers at an Antarctic base die horribly, succumbing to paranoia and distrust as it turns out the thing that’s killing them can perfectly mimic anything it eats. 1h49m long

Escape from New York (1h39m)

The film is set in 1997 and concerns a crime-ridden dystopian United States, which has converted Manhattan Island in New York City into the country’s sole maximum security prison. Air Force One is hijacked by anti-government insurgents. Former Special Forces and current federal prisoner Snake Plissken is given 24 hours to go in and rescue the President of the United States. If successful, he will be pardoned. If he fails or exceeds the time limit, his head will be blown off. This film heavily inspired Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid games. 1h39m long.
