AdS describes a universe with a negative cosmological constant, a spacetime that curves inward and has a hard mathematical boundary where the CFT lives. Our actual universe has a positive cosmological constant (dark energy) and is expanding like a de Sitter (dS) space, which has no spatial boundary.
